To address your questions...
  • How do paper dolls work?
    Just cut out the doll and the clothing items, then use little paper tabs to secure the clothing to the dolls. Or at least that's how we did it in the '90s. Nowadays, people also use tiny velcro stickers to attach the clothes sometimes. This course teaches you the paper tab option, but if you are adding your dolls to a busy book, then you might opt for the velcro option instead.
  • Do I need Canva Pro?
    Nope! Every technique used here is available in the free version of Canva. Anything that's not possible in Canva, we'll handle in Photopea, which is a FREE program.
  • Can I use another AI art generator besides ChatGPT? And do I need the paid version of ChatGPT?
    You can certainly use another AI art generator if you'd like, but I found that ChatGPT works best because it does a good job of following instructions to create all of your dolls with the same body shape and all of your clothing to actually FIT that body shape. It's still not 100% perfect, but we'll talk in the course about how to fix that.

    Free ChatGPT will work, but the paid version of ChatGPT will be better if you want to create more images per day.
  • Do people actually still play with paper dolls?
    Yes! They are SO nostalgic for moms, and so they remain popular with kids today too. Plus, they are great learning tools. On a basic level, kids can practice sorting clothes by season (perfect for a busy book!). But they are also GREAT for role playing and practicing social skills.
  • Is Photopea scary/hard/expensive?
    Photopea is a FREE program, and although it looks a little intimidating at first, I do my best in the course to make it as easy and not-scary as possible. And Photopea will allow you to do some things you just can't do in Canva. We'll use it to cut out a doll's braid so that we can layer her hair on top of an outfit. And we'll use it to resize clothing. You'll feel like a tailor, just with a computer mouse instead of a sewing machine!
  • Is the course accessible?
    Transcripts and closed captions are included for all videos, and all images and visuals are designed with visual clarity in mind.
